Have you noticed that jobs are hard to find? I’m not just talking about how it seems like more people are looking for jobs because of the economy. I’m talking about how when you look on job boards online and classifieds in the paper and online, there just does not seem to be a lot of positions to apply for. It used to be that you could look on something like craigslist and find over ten things to apply for on the first page. Not so anymore. I was wondering why this was happening so I started talking to my friend who works for a Fortune 500 company. Lucky her, right? Well, anyway, she said it’s not that there are less jobs. It’s that more and more companies are using recruiting agencies to fill their vacant positions.
When I heard this, I thought that could not be possible. I always thought of recruiting agencies as places you go when you want to find temporary jobs. Turns out I was wrong. There are many a recruiting agency that does full time job placement and it totally makes sense for businesses to use their services. Not only do they keep a database of potential candidates but they will sort through resumes and applications, saving their clients time and resources. My friend said that if I was serious about finding a job quickly then I needed to get an interview with a recruiting agency. That way my resume and my availability would be made known to their clients and I would be considered for a variety of positions with more than one company. I am definitely going to take her advice because I feel like I am just banging my head against the wall at this point in my job search. Going to a recruiting agency just makes sense.
